LaVigne Home History
National surveys have shown that most people would prefer to die at home or in a home-like setting. Tragically, in the final days of their lives, many people find themselves with no place to go and no one to care for them.
For many families, in-home care is not an option. Many people don’t have caregiving experience to feel confident caring for a dying family member. Family members do their best to care for their loved ones while juggling other responsibilities like children, jobs, and their own health challenges.
LaVigne Home for Compassionate Care is a non-profit organization started by a group of people working with the terminally ill, who realized how many people have nowhere to go to receive end-of-life care.
In 2023, a property in Burton, Michigan was purchased after a donation from the estate of Barbara LaVigne.
After significant renovation, the home opened in September of 2024.
In the first year of opening, the LaVigne Home was able to care for over 170 guests at the end of their lives.
Barbara LaVigne
After a distinguished tenure at Chase Bank, Barbara dedicated her time to assisting seniors with grocery shopping, medical appointments, and other essential needs. Upon her passing, a beneficiary of Barbara’s estate chose to honor her legacy through contributions to the causes she supported. This philanthropic gesture enabled the acquisition of a residence, now named the LaVigne Home for Compassionate Care.
